Episode 1 Refresher

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]What an amazing start to The Great British Sewing Bee! We have a few ideas that can get you involved with making your own designs at home with a little help from us. We provide many fabrics for you to get stuck in to challenge yourself with all the different colours, patterns and materials, not to mention some amazing haberdashery tools. [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Pattern-Matching Task:

With three challenges set already in the first episode, take the opportunity to see how you can cope with the same pressures. So here we go, the first challenge was to express your binding and bias skills. This demands accuracy for pattern-matching and precision with a steady hand for cutting and sewing. With a diverse range of patterns, designs and fabrics, indulge your creativeness and asses how the diagonal direction to the weave of the fabric fits. Remember linear patterns are more commonly used with this kind of technique but you can divert from that and use other patterns that you can explore with our range of animal prints to floral and many more.

If you really want to compete with the contestants on the show, why don’t you give yourself a time frame to get your garment finished by. For this challenge, they had to create their garments within 2 ½ hours, can you take that pressure? Remember to match the patterns to perfect your bias skills.

Why not try these fabrics for the task…[/vc_column_text]

[vc_column_text]Don’t forget your Bias Binding and Thread…[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Transformation Task:
So their next challenge was to revamp a dull maternity dress in 90 minutes. This looked like great fun! A useful thought to take from this challenge is that you give your clothes that personable feel with your individualism, making you stand out from the rest and that’s what we all love to do. The material used in the episode can also be found here with us so you can really commit to the task. But if you want something more dramatic or completely different, we have plenty fabric and haberdashery options for you to choose from. Say goodbye to the conventional high street styles and revitalize your wardrobe into refreshing, unique styles.

Made-to-Measure Task:
This final task was my favourite, to create a completely new garment that is made-to-measure. With a time limit of 5 hours, your creative mind will be exploding with ideas and suggestions I bet. Keep an eye out on the leveling of the hem to create a clean look. Whatever you choose to design and create, our haberdashery kit will feed those creative thoughts with substance and realism.

So get your innovative hat on (you probably would have designed the hat too), and get cutting, sewing, measuring, and your model ready (if you have one, otherwise be your own model).

The fabrics, colours, patterns and haberdashery the contestants used, can also be found with us.
