Because of its weight and stability, Ponte Roma is incredibly versatile. It is much easier to sew than lightweight jerseys, making it a great “entry-level” stretch fabric for beginners. Popular projects include:

• Structured Dresses: Perfect for “wiggle dresses,” shift dresses, and the famous “Coco” style dress.

• Smart Trousers & Leggings: Ideal for creating thick, “squat-proof” leggings, joggers, or office-ready slim-fit trousers.

• Jackets & Blazers: Its weight allows it to hold the shape of a collar or lapel better than other knits.

• Skirts: Great for A-line or pencil skirts that require a bit of “hold” and support.

How to Sew and Care for Ponte Roma: Expert Tips for Success

To get the best results when buying Ponte Roma by the metre, keep these tips in mind:

• Needle Choice: Use a Ballpoint or Jersey needle (size 70/10 to 90/12) to prevent the fabric fibres from snagging or breaking.

• Thread & Stitch: While Ponte is stable, it still has stretch. Use a slight zig-zag stitch or a stretch stitch on your sewing machine to ensure your seams don’t pop when the garment is worn.

• Washing: We recommend a 30°C machine wash. Ponte Roma dries relatively quickly and rarely needs ironing. If you do iron, use a medium heat setting and a pressing cloth to avoid creating a “shiny” mark on the synthetic fibres.
