Natalie

Lots of people have asked ABOUT HOW  Fabric Land opened and some of our history…

My name is Natalie Berg and I started the company back in 1971 at a market stall in Maidenhead. My parents sold fabric in this market and Reading market, so I decided to sell haberdashery and a lady was giving her stall up in Maidenhead so I took it over. I worked in that market for 15 years, trade declined and I gave it up. One year later I moved from Wanstead London E.ll to Bournemouth, where we are situated now, and opened a tiny shop selling fabric and haberdashery in a new centre on Bournemouth High Street, in 1985. I was really successful and my husband decided to join me, he took my little business to what it is today. My daughter then joined us and we are now in our 3rd generation of family working for Fabric Land, so we are a real family business.

We now import and mail order from all over the world and we have 4 retail shops. We serve CARNIVAL Cruise Liners Theatrical Dept. and Air Tours, Costa Cruises, Cunard with fabric for many of their shows and many others besides.

Like all small businesses, I could not do this without great reliable and loyal staff, some who have worked for me for more than 25 years. My staff have contributed to this business, and I would not be in this positive position without very good and hard working staff, I could name names, but if I left someone out they would be offended. Good staff who enjoy their job are hard to find. I have found at least 10 and I am very lucky!

I love fabrics and enjoy every minute of doing my job, so I consider myself very lucky. I also make my own clothes which I sneak off to do from time to time, but don’t tell anyone eh! My secret, they think I am in a meeting. HE HE!!
