Habutae Faux Silk is a lightweight, plain-weave polyester fabric designed to mimic the appearance and feel of traditional Japanese Habutai silk. It offers a beautiful, subtle sheen and a very smooth surface, making it an ideal choice for high-quality garment linings and accessories while remaining much more affordable and easier to care for than pure silk.

It feels more like a natural fibre against the skin and has a more sophisticated shimmer, which adds an expensive-looking finish to the inside of your handmade coats, dresses, and skirts.

One of the biggest advantages of the faux silk version of Habutae is that it is incredibly easy to care for. Unlike pure silk, which often requires dry cleaning, our polyester Habutae can be safely machine-washed on a cool, gentle cycle and ironed on a low heat setting, making it much more practical for everyday clothing.

Like most fine, silky materials, Habutae Faux Silk can fray once it is cut due to its smooth threads. To ensure a professional finish, we recommend using very sharp scissors or a rotary cutter and finishing your internal seams with a zig-zag stitch, an overlocker, or a French seam to keep the fabric perfectly intact.
