Body Stocking Fabric

Body stocking fabric is a specialised selection of highly elastic, sheer, and lightweight textiles designed for close-fitting garments that require a second-skin fit and complete ease of movement. It is the industry standard for creating professional dancewear, theatrical costumes, gymnastics leotards, and custom lingerie. The collection brings together fine stretch meshes, heavy power nets, and elasticated lace overlays that conform beautifully to body contours while remaining entirely breathable.

To achieve a flawless contour without restricting natural movement, high-quality body stocking materials predominantly feature a four-way stretch. This means the fabric expands and recovers dynamically both horizontally (across the width) and vertically (along the length). This multi-directional flexibility is absolutely vital for performance apparel, ensuring the garment moves with the wearer during complex routines and pulls back into shape cleanly without sagging, bagging, or wrinkling.

The primary difference lies in their compression strength and structural hold. Standard stretch mesh is ultra-lightweight, incredibly sheer, and soft to the touch, making it perfect for decorative contrast panels, illusion necklines, and delicate intimate apparel. Power net (or heavy stretch net), conversely, is engineered with a much tighter, stronger elastic tension. It provides functional support and body-shaping compression, making it ideal for athletic costume bases, brassiere bands, and control undergarments.

Sewing sheer, high-stretch textiles on a domestic machine requires a few professional adjustments to prevent skipped stitches or puckered seams. Always use a fresh Stretch or Ballpoint needle (size 75/11 or 80/12), which is uniquely shaped to navigate highly elastic synthetic fibres without snagging or tearing the knit loops. Crucially, select a stitch that stretches with the material—such as a narrow zigzag or a three-step zigzag stitch—so the structural seams can expand seamlessly without snapping under physical tension.
