Crepe Backed Satin Fabric

Crepe backed satin is a woven reversible textile featuring two distinct sides: one side has a smooth, lustrous, high-shine satin finish, while the reverse has a soft, muted, pebbled crepe texture. Both sides can be used as the face of a garment, offering excellent weight and liquid drape.

Either side can be used as the “right” side depending on your preferred look. You can choose the glossy satin side for maximum shine, the matt crepe side for subtle sophistication, or alternate both sides within different panels of the same garment to create a stylish textured contrast.

Because of its fluid drape and smooth surface, crepe backed satin can be slippery to work with. To ensure easy sewing, use fine microtex sewing machine needles (size 70/10 or 80/12), fine silk pins, and consider cutting on a single layer or using tissue paper underneath while stitching seams.

Most synthetic polyester crepe backed satins can be gently hand-washed or machine-washed on a delicate 30°C cycle. Always press on the reverse side using a cool iron setting with a protective pressing cloth to avoid scorching or marking the glossy satin surface.
