The best textiles for this season are those that offer a bit of weight and texture. Corduroy, brushed cotton (flannel), tweed, and medium-weight jerseys are the most popular choices. These materials provide excellent insulation for layering while standing up well to the wind and damp of the UK climate.

Traditional palettes mirror the changing landscape. Expect to see deep, earthy tones like rust orange, mustard yellow, forest green, burgundy, and warm chocolate browns. We also stock rich jewel tones and classic monochrome tartans that work perfectly for transitional wardrobes.

Brushed cotton (often referred to as winceyette or flannel) undergoes a mechanical brushing process that raises the surface fibres. This creates a beautifully soft, fuzzy texture that traps body heat effectively without adding heavy bulk, making it the ultimate choice for cosy pyjamas, shirts, and warm linings.

Textured materials require a bit of extra care to maintain their pile and finish. Always wash corduroy inside out on a gentle cycle to prevent the “ribs” from flattening or wearing down. Avoid tumble drying heavy textiles where possible; instead, hang them to dry naturally. When ironing, always press on the reverse side over a fluffy towel to avoid crushing the texture.
