Autumn Fabric

The best autumn fabrics are those that offer a bit of weight and texture. Corduroy, Brushed Cotton (Flannel), Tweed, and medium-weight Jerseys are the most popular choices. These fabrics provide excellent insulation for layering while standing up well to the wind and damp of the UK autumn season.

Autumn palettes are inspired by nature. Look for ‘earthy’ tones such as Mustard Yellow, Burnt Orange, Rust, Forest Green, and deep Burgundy. These shades are timeless for the season and coordinate beautifully with neutral staples like Navy, Brown, and Charcoal Grey.

Brushed cotton, also known as Flannel or Winceyette, has been mechanically brushed to create a soft, fuzzy nap on the surface. This process ‘traps’ air between the fibres, making the fabric much warmer than standard smooth cotton. It is the perfect choice for cozy shirts, linings for jackets, and comfortable nightwear.

Most autumn fabrics like corduroy and brushed cotton are durable and machine-washable. We recommend washing on a cool 30-degree cycle to prevent the ‘pile’ or nap of the fabric from becoming crushed. To keep corduroy looking its best, always iron it on the reverse side to avoid leaving shiny marks on the ribbed surface.
