Yes, natural fibres are prone to shrinking during their first wash. We always recommend pre-washing your cotton at 30 or 40 degrees before you start cutting your pattern. This ensures that your finished garment or quilt will not warp or shrink later on!

For standard plain and medium-weight cottons, a Universal needle in size 80/12 or 90/14 is absolutely perfect. Because the weave is relatively stable and smooth, you do not need specialized ballpoint or heavy-duty needles. Just pair it with a good quality polyester or cotton thread for flawless stitching.
