Living Room Fabric

For living room curtains, you want a fabric with a good ‘drape’ and enough weight to hang correctly. Medium-weight cotton blends, linen-look wovens, and jacquards are excellent choices. If your living room gets a lot of sunlight, consider adding a blackout or thermal lining to protect the face fabric from fading and to improve your homes energy efficiency.

While many of our living room fabrics are heavy-duty, they are generally intended for ‘soft furnishings’ like cushions, curtains, and light decorative upholstery (such as footstools). For a full sofa recovery, you would need a specialized upholstery fabric with a high rub-count. Additionally, please note that our fabrics are not pre-treated with fire-retardant chemicals; an FR interlining is required for domestic furniture compliance in the UK.

A great designer trick is the ‘Rule of Three’. Choose one large-scale pattern (like a floral or geometric), one small-scale pattern (like a stripe or dot), and one solid plain texture (like a velvet or linen-look) in a similar colour palette. This creates a professional, layered look in your living room without the patterns clashing or feeling overwhelming.

Most of our living room fabrics are a blend of cotton and polyester, making them durable and easy to maintain. For removable cushion covers, a cool hand-wash or a gentle machine cycle is usually fine. For larger items like curtains, we recommend professional dry cleaning once a year to remove dust and prevent the fabric from shrinking or losing its crisp, tailored shape.
